Reporting Entity

The Far North District Council is a territorial local authority governed by the Local Government Act 2002. The financial statements reflect the operations of Far North District Council and its subsidiaries, Far North Holdings Limited (100% owned), Rolands Wood Trust and the Te Ahu Charitable Trust, and are prepared in accordance with the requirements of the Local Government Act 2002, which includes the requirement to comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (GAAP).

Far North District Council has designated itself and the group to be a Public Benefit Entity for the purposes of New Zealand equivalents to International Financial Reporting Standards (NZ IFRS). Far North District Council's primary objective is to provide goods and services for community or social benefit and any equity has been provided with a view to supporting that primary objective rather than for a financial return. All available reporting exemptions allowed under the framework for Public Benefit Entities have been adopted. The financial statements are for the year to 30 June 2011 and were authorised by Far North District Council for issue on 27 October 2011.
